Protected Trees and Hedges
Many trees and hedges in Clifton Without are protected by Tree Protection Orders. Others are public property and cannot residents are not free to cut them or remove them.
Planning permission would be needed to conduct any work on protected trees or hedges.
For example, many of the hedges on Green Lane and Water Lane, and some hedges on Shipton Road belong to City of York Council as the highways authority. Residents whose houses back onto these hedges are NOT allowed to remove the hedge to create an entrance to their property.
